Sr. Data Scientist / Mgr - Advanced Analytics

Our client is a mid-sized niche retailer with ~5,000 employees, 700 stores and a growing eCommerce business. They are building out their advanced analytics / data science team and looking to add a mid to senior level individual contributor.

The Sr. Data Scientist / Mgr will lead the development and implementation of strategic recommendations to improve profitability and ROI. To enable strategic decision making, the Scientist will conduct statistical analysis / modeling using a comprehensive set of data from across the organization, including, but not limited to: product, payroll, staffing, pricing and marketing.

Responsibilities include:
Defines analytical standards for recurring business questions

Strategically partners with business leaders by leaving new analytics and insights to challenge and influence business leaders

Analyzes data and builds statistical models to optimize profits: Traffic/conversion models, marketing mix models, pricing, staffing, assortment optimization, store operations/labor

Influences senior management decision making on the most crucial decisions facing the company

Thought-provoker interacting across the company and contributing to the culture of fact-based management

Develops effective presentations concerning complex ideas that can be communicated in a straight forward manner

Continually builds and develops analytic skills to stays up to speed with innovation, trends and best practices

Works to ensure the integration of accurate and complete data sources across the retail brand organization

Establishes strong relationships with senior management and translates data-based insights into actionable initiatives

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or work experience in highly quantitative area. MBA or Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline preferred

Ability to write complex queries in SQL

Strong knowledge of statistical packages (R or Python)

Strong Communication Skills: ability to clearly convey very complex ideas in simple easy to understand ways – both in writing and verbally

Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of the organization
