Our client, The Philadelphia Inquirer, was founded in 1829 and is the third-oldest continually operating daily newspaper in the United States. It was purchased in 2014 by the non-profit Lenfest Institute, which was founded by philanthropist Gerry Lenfest to protect and promote the integrity of journalism – specifically local journalism.

The Philadelphia Inquirer publishes a news website (Inquirer.com) and two daily newspapers (The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News) and has come a long way in terms of modernizing its operations and delivering content across all digital channels. They are currently looking to grow their Finance team and in need of a Sr. Financial Analyst.

The Senior Financial Analyst will be in charge of coordinating, developing, and supporting a number of tasks for the Senior Director of Financial Planning and Treasury. The position will revolve heavily around the operating budgets for various divisions, including both regular recurring reporting and ad hoc analyses related to their performance to the operating budget as well as historical comparisons. Additionally, the Senior Analyst will, to a lesser extent, support the Treasury Manager with cash and bank reconciliation duties as well as annual audit responsibilities.

Responsibilities include:
Coordinate and support the development of reconciliations, presentations, and loading of data into the financial system for the annual budgets for designated divisions.

Use Oracle ePBCS budget application to load budget data, make budget changes, pull budget variance reports, and gain efficiencies through automation enhancements.

Develop and maintain reports that reconcile staffing and vendor information as it relates to actual performance vs budget including accrual tracking and processing through month-end close process. Month-end close requires a firm knowledge of accrual preparation. Prepare variance to budget narratives.

Use regular ad hoc analysis assignments for designated divisions.

The analyst will be asked to cross-train with other analysts throughout the year to help spread knowledge base throughout the Finance division.

Cash reconciliation of bank account activity. Reconcile credit card payment details with bank statements. Reconcile monthly bank balances. Provide support materials and documentation of annual audit requests.

Qualifications:
4-7+ years of experience in financial planning and accounting experience in a similar business environment

Knowledgeable in Oracle fusion or other corporate accounting financial systems; experience with Oracle ePBCS highly preferred. Highly comfortable with Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel as well as Google Suite with emphasis on Sheets and Slides.

Can communicate clearly and effectively with others at various levels of the company as well as externally when needed. Establish, cultivate, and maintain effective working relationships throughout the organization.

Workspace and record-keeping should be well organized.

Must be very reliable in regards to meeting deadlines.

Detail-oriented with the ability to follow through and solve problems. Adaptable and flexible to new ideas and changes in responsibilities as the operations develop. Able to produce accurate results in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
