Our client, The Philadelphia Inquirer, was founded in 1829 and is the third-oldest continually operating daily newspaper in the United States. It was purchased in 2014 by the non-profit Lenfest Institute, which was founded by philanthropist Gerry Lenfest to protect and promote the integrity of journalism – specifically local journalism.
The Philadelphia Inquirer publishes a news website (Inquirer.com) and two daily newspapers (The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News) and has come a long way in terms of modernizing its operations and delivering content across digital channels. The focus now is to modernize their Marketing department to enable them to build audiences more effectively for their content and monetize those audiences.
One of the key positions of focus is a Head of Marketing Technology who will support the successful execution of their consumer marketing strategy through the evaluation, rationalization and implementation of marketing technology platforms. This technical & strategic leader will be responsible for ensuring the successful launch and adoption of new & existing technologies within the marketing team, through training, developing new processes and leveraging best practices. Success in this role will require coordination and collaboration across the Consumer Marketing and Product Development & Engineering (PD&E) teams.

Responsibilities include:
Rationalize the marketing technology stack (Customer Data Platform, Email Service Provider, Customer Relationship Management, etc.) for both efficiency and effectiveness.
Create a streamlined relationship with Consumer Marketing and PD&E teams in relation to managing the marketing tech stack.
Train and support marketing staff on use and best practices of marketing technology products.
Design and manage internal workflows related to marketing technology processes.
Research and recommend new marketing technology products along with potential technical product reviews.
Perform return on investment analysis on all marketing technology products, services, and vendors.
Identify ways to optimize marketing technology budget/maximize ROI
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a technical field highly desired.
5+ years of experience working with consumer marketing technologies including, but not limited to Customer Data Platforms, Email Service Providers, Customer Relationship Management and marketing automation systems.
Familiarity with campaign optimization including marketing technology and data activation for enhanced targeting and a more complete attribution of campaign success metrics.
Experience in partnering with marketing staff (or managing) campaign development and execution, with particular emphasis on recurring revenue models.
Salesforce configuration and integration experience (at least 1 or more of the following five Salesforce modules: Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Salesforce Communities and Knowledge).
Background with subscription billing platforms is a plus.
Vendor/partner relationship management, budgeting, evaluation.
The ability to manage and support multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to drive results at all levels, regardless of reporting structures.
