Our client is one of the most successful marketplace technology start-ups in the last 10 years. Since 2012, they have grown to service almost 80% of US homes, offering items delivered from 15,000+ stores across over 4,000+ cities with the help of 70,000+ shoppers.
This client has a rapidly growing 25+person data science team, made up of Sr. Managers, Managers and Sr. Data Scientists. They are currently looking to add a Director of Data Science to take the reigns of their new Advertising business.
2020 is going to be the “Year of Ads” for the client and they are looking for someone with proven experience starting/growing an Advertising program and team (20 to 30 member supporting DS team forecasted at scale).
The mission of their Ads team: Create advertising products that connect Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) brands and their products with our customers, while maximizing revenue and providing an amazing customer experience. Their Ads business is growing at an exponential rate year over year and it is currently saving their customers millions per month using their internally developed products. From a Product standpoint, they are currently partnered with 1000+ CPG brands and 100% of the top brands. There are currently 5 products the CPG brands can leverage to help them engage customers and help them discover new products and brands, with many more to come.
Responsibilities include:
Build and lead a high-performing team of data scientists
Work with cross-functional partners in product, engineering, design, and operations to achieve business goals
Collaborate with other leaders to build data-informed product strategy and roadmaps
Develop analytical frameworks and metrics for the team and broader organization
Provide hands-on technical guidance and career mentorship for team members
Lead and prioritize deep dives into our data to uncover new opportunities
Qualifications:
5+ years work experience in a quant role at a product company
2+ years people management experience
Ability to quickly understand business concepts and influence product decision making
A desire to build and improve consumer software products
Ability to write complex, efficient, and eloquent SQL queries to extract data
Ability to write efficient and eloquent code in Python (preferred), R, or C/C++
Ability to run rigorous experiments and come up with scientifically sound recommendations
Eagerness to learn, flexibility to pivot when needed, savviness to navigate and thrive in a dynamic environment, and a growth mindset needed to build a successful team an
