Data Science Lead (Emerging Products)

Our client is one of the most successful technology start-ups in the last 10 years. They have grown to 300+ employees and service 15,000 stores across 4,000 cities. They just closed a $600 million round of funding, bringing their valuation to $7.6 billion (Oct 2018).

The company has a fast growing 20+ person centralized data science team, made up of Managers and Sr. Data Scientists. The team has tripled in size in the last year and a half.

This Data Science Lead will be a team lead for 3 existing analysts and will be the primary analyst for the Emerging Products team, working directly with a senior PM on special projects to shape the future of the company.  This Lead will have strong ownership (pro-active about their projects, hold others accountable, care about both personal and team performance) and leadership (help shape the team’s roadmap, come up with new ideas to drive business forward, can manage tech debt) skills to go along with excellent tech / scripting experience.

Responsibilities include:
Conduct quantitative research and analysis of our “big bet” products requiring complex data retrieval that results in actionable insights and recommendations

Identify key questions, problems, and KPIs using your sharp business acumen and judgment

Design and analyze rigorous a/b experiments

Work daily with product managers, engineers, and designers to discover and guide the most impactful product investments

Provide access to data through dashboards and other analytical tools to empower your team through self service. Look for opportunity to automate insights through alerting and anomaly detection

Develop and deliver on the consumer analytics roadmap

Requirements:
Experience mentoring other analysts and / or leading large cross-functional / team projects

Passion for, and track record of leveraging data for business impact, preferably in a consumer product facing digital environment

Ability to write complex and performant queries in your dialect of SQL to extract data from our Redshift cluster

Experience building tools and automated processes to extract, clean, and distill data in a procedural language of your choice such as Python, Julia or R

Understanding of A/B testing and other forms of statistical analysis using statistical packages similar to R, SAS, or Pandas

Excellent communication skills with the ability to distill complex problems into digestible insights

Effective data visualization skills with analytical tools such as Tableau, Looker, D3.js or other tools
