SEM Rock Stars
by Lee Odden @ TopRank Marketing
If you’ve exhibited, presented or moderated a Search Engine Strategies conference, it’s more than likely that you’ve had the opportunity to meet Stewart Quealy, VP, Content Development at Incisive Media, parent company to Search Engine Strategies, Search Engine Watch and ClickZ. Stewart (L), along with Mike Grehan (R) were recently named co-chairs of the SES Advisory Board, which is charged with shaping the future direction and ongoing growth of the SES conference.
The SEM legend, Mike Grehan, is global KDM officer with New York based Acronym Media. He’s been involved with online marketing since 1995 and is recognized in the industry as an expert in the search marketing field. He’s programmed many SES London events and has written multiple books and white papers on search marketing.
With the co-chair good news and SES San Jose coming up, I thought it would be fitting to tap into the wealth of knowledge between Stewart and Mike to get their take on the future of SES, the industry and how to get the most out of attending search marketing conferences.

Google AdWords Blog informs about a new way to run local ads via Location extentions. With the help of this feature advertisers will be allowed to add their addresses to their search ads.
Location extensions allows advertisers to “extend” their AdWords campaigns by attaching your business address to your ads, dynamically. With the introduction of this feature, you'll be able to create local ads with extensions from scratch or add extensions to your existing text ads.
Users with existing local business ads, will continue running unless you don't edit them. In case you edit, your ads will be converted to a text ad with the ad's address attached as a location extension. This new ad will appear in the same spot as your previous local business ads. The creation and management of local business ads will have complete support of the AdWords Editor. The Editor support for location extensions will be released very soon.

How do you make social media systematic? One way is by utilizing a comprehensive framework as part of your planning and execution. At Room 214, we are often asked about our methodology for social media, so the following post is dedicated to just that.
First, I would like to state that we are big fans of Forrester's POST (People, Objectives, Strategy, Technology) approach to social strategy. The components represent a linear model that I'd argue holds true for any online marketing efforts. You can dig deeper into this by reading Groundswell by Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff.

IQ Workforce Blog

My team has been attending, sponsoring and speaking at Web Analytics Wednesday events around the country for the past few years.
If you are not familiar with Web Analytics Wednesday, these are real-life (in person) social networking events for the Web Analytics communities in cities around the world.
The success and growth of these get-togethers is pretty incredible. They were started by Eric Peterson of Web Analytics Demystified and June Dershowitz. This month web analytics practitioners in Aarhus, Atlanta, Chicago, Columbus, Copenhagen, Dallas, Manila, Portland, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Monica, Seattle and Sydney will get together for drinks, networking and chat about their work. Some will have formal presentations. Some will be just friends and colleagues gathering over a common interest. Truly remarkable.
Last year IQ Workforce began sponsoring the career-oriented content on the Web Analytics Demystified site (the job board, salary calculator, etc.). This year, Eric asked us if we would like to also be global sponsors of Web Analytics Wednesday.
