"Relying too much on SEO? Think Again."
by Anil Batra, author of the Web Analysis, Behavioral Targeting and Advertising blog

I usually don’t write about SEO (since I am not an SEO, here are the posts labeled SEO) but this issue has been bugging me for quite a few days so I thought I will write about my views on this topic and open it for comments and suggestions.

Search Engine optimization has become an important part of the marketing strategy. However, I feel, a lot marketers are getting too obsessed with traffic driven to their sites from Google, Yahoo, Live (MSN), ASK etc without thinking about the consequences of dropping off from search engines rankings. I understand that it is relatively cheaper (notice I did not say Free) than paid inclusions, banner ads, affiliates etc. And ranking high on search engine is something to be happy about and proud of, ranking high on search engines provides you competitive advantage. But Free comes with risks.

 Web Analytics Supervisor
Location: Los Angeles, CA -$110,000 - $150,000

This online media and ad agency has quietly and quickly built one of the top digital marketing analytics teams in the country. Like most agencies they are continuing to aggressively grow the practice and they are looking for a Supervisor in LA, as well as Analysts in LA, Chicago, San Francisco and NY. They pay VERY well and you would be focused on Fortune 1000 clients and surrounded by the top people in the business.
 Associate Director of Analytics
Location: San Francisco, CA - to $150k

This integrated agency (DM, Interactive, media & traditional) has an equally integrated/centralized analytics team - the largest such group in the country. This team works cross-functionally for clients online and offline. Very cool opportunity to broaden your scope. Blue chip clients and top peers.
 Senior Analyst
Location: San Francisco, CA - to $110k

Same company as above except at the analyst/consultant level (2-5 years of experience). Agency experience is a huge + but they really want SMART, articulate people that can move beyond the metrics to help their clients make strategic decisions.
 Director of Research & Analytics
Location: NY - to $150k + equity

VERY cool company - still in start-up mode, but they have great backing and a sick management team. They produce original short video programming for broadcast/podcast across 101 "channels" on the web. They are looking for a research & analytics smarty to help them figure out how users are using their site, what they are doing on their partners' sites (YouTube, etc.) and where to focus their marketing and product development efforts. Huge opportunity to make an impact.
 Manager of Marketing Analytics
Location: NJ - $85k

Dow Jones is looking for someone to run a small marketing analytics team within their consumer media business (Wall Street Journal, Barron's, MarketWatch, etc.). Manage an analyst or two and face-off with execs from marketing and sales to get them the data that they need to grow/retain their subscriber base.
 VP of Web Analytics
Location: NY - $180k

#2 direct marketing firm in the world ($2B in revenue - 50+ offices) is looking for someone to be "the face of web analytics" for the firm. Based in NY you would report to the SVP of Analytics - one of the true gurus in the space - and keep yourself busy managing client engagements, building your team, writing white papers, speaking at events, etc. Very high profile job.
 Associate Director of Analytics
Location: NY - $135k

Top 5 agency is looking for someone to take a leadership role in their pharma practice in NY. Pharma expertise, cross-channel marketing analytics and the ability to manage major client relationships all a must.
